Film Magazine - Empire

This post is important as it shows my ability to analyse a professional film magazine's cover and understand the layout and why certain aspect of the magazine attract audiences.

The Word 'Empire' in bold across the top of the page:
Title of the magazine. The Masthead.

Inside the 'M' of Empire:
This is the price of the magazine, its issue number and it's publish date.

"Magazine of the Year":
A form of enticement, a type of slogan to attract audiences. It pumps up the magazine's reputation.

The Colour Pallet:
The colours used on the cover are blue, white black and red. A little bit of yellow to draw attention to text there. The colour blue used in the background makes it seem quite otherworldly and surround the women in the middle in a pale blue glow.

The women in the centre of the cover:
She contrasts with the pale and bright coloured background and text as she is dressed in black. This helps illuminate her pale skin and the startling blueness of her eyes.

Barcode
"Troy Legacy" in bold letters across the bottom:
The name of the film is in bright white and outlined in blue to draw attention from the reader.

Yellow triangle in the right bottom corner:
Draws attention as it’s the biggest piece of yellow on the cover. Showing that there are 2 other magazine overs to choose from. Called 'Collector cover's'.

"Oscar Special" in bold yellow:
This draws your attention as it's in yellow. Showing that it has special new on other big Oscar nominated films as they are listed in white and smaller font underneath.

"The 3D Event of the Year":
Trying to catch the eyes of the reader saying that this is the magazine because it has the 3D event of the year in it.

"The ultimate guide":
Trying to get you to buy the magazine because it has something that is everything you need to know about Tron Legacy.

From this analysis of a film magazine cover I can say that magazine covers use bright colours to attract the audiences and use interesting and unusual fonts to capture their attentions. Also they offer things like "exclusive front covers" and "Oscar Specials"
