When Caleb Tomworthy comes home from working late to finds his wife, Lily, waiting for him. She is holding a piece of underwear and asks him who it belongs to. He claims that he hasn’t seen it before and tries to make out that it belongs to the wife. Lily throws it at Caleb shouting that he is cheating on her and wants a divorce. In anger Caleb hits her around the face, knocking her into the counter so that her head hits the edge. She falls to the ground and doesn’t move. Seconds later the Caleb falls to his knees beside Lily crying out that he is sorry and tries to wake her up. Only for him to remove his hand from the back of her head to see blood on it. In a panic the he places her down and begins to try and make it look like an accident by making a puddle of water on the floor and wiping it across the floor to make it look as if that was the cause of the floor before calling 999.
One week later, Caleb stands in front of a grave with a bundle of flowers. He sets them down and kneels in front of it whispering how sorry he is, crying.
Later we see him getting less and less active around other people and eventually we see his mistress enter the picture coming to live with him. She keeps things tidy as he slowly continues to deteriorate. He still goes to work and eventually stops that too, still haunted by guilt of killing his wife.
One day when his mistress leaves the house, he starts thinking he can see Lily walking around the house only to look twice and see no one there. These ‘sightings’ progressively get worse and he begins to see her for longer periods of time. She never speaks and he keeps crying out for her to talk to him.
