Trailer Shot List

This post is important as it shows that I have looked into the main shots I have used in making my trailer.

Close Ups- In my film trailer I use close ups to bring attention to items that will be important in the storyline for example I use a close up of a piece of female undergarments and also a tube of lipstick to show that the item is something key to the storyline and also create tension. Also during the film I use closer ups to show expression on my actor and actresses faces during the trailers.

Extreme Close Ups-  In my film trailer I use extreme close ups to capture all of the audience's attention as their view is consumed by this shot. An example of this is when I use an extreme close up of the ghost's eyes at the very beginning of the trailer. The shot draws the attention to intensity of her stare.

Point of View Shot- In my film trailer I used over a point of view shot to show things from my character's point of view. An example being when we see the dead body of my female character crumpled on the floor as if we were looking from my male character's eyes. This shot helps set the audience in the eyes of the main characters and feel like they are part of the story.

Full Film Synopsis - Before becoming a Trailer

When Caleb Tomworthy comes home from working late to finds his wife, Lily, waiting for him. She is holding a piece of underwear and asks him who it belongs to. He claims that he hasn’t seen it before and tries to make out that it belongs to the wife. Lily throws it at Caleb shouting that he is cheating on her and wants a divorce. In anger Caleb hits her around the face, knocking her into the counter so that her head hits the edge. She falls to the ground and doesn’t move. Seconds later the Caleb falls to his knees beside Lily crying out that he is sorry and tries to wake her up. Only for him to remove his hand from the back of her head to see blood on it. In a panic the he places her down and begins to try and make it look like an accident by making a puddle of water on the floor and wiping it across the floor to make it look as if that was the cause of the floor before calling 999.
One week later, Caleb stands in front of a grave with a bundle of flowers. He sets them down and kneels in front of it whispering how sorry he is, crying.
Later we see him getting less and less active around other people and eventually we see his mistress enter the picture coming to live with him. She keeps things tidy as he slowly continues to deteriorate. He still goes to work and eventually stops that too, still haunted by guilt of killing his wife.
One day when his mistress leaves the house, he starts thinking he can see Lily walking around the house only to look twice and see no one there. These ‘sightings’ progressively get worse and he begins to see her for longer periods of time. She never speaks and he keeps crying out for her to talk to him.

How I made my Film Poster

This blog post is important as it shows the steps I took to make my film poster.

1- I used a camera on a tripod and took this photography of Caleb tilting Ivy back. This was the base for my poster.

2- I used photoshop and edited another picture on top of my base picture. So that at first it seemed that all three actors were in the shot at the beginning. Once I had placed the picture of my female ghost into the frame, I lowered her opacity so that she looked opaque and ghost-like then placed an effect on the layer called 'Outer Glow' and changed the glow colour from yellow to a pale red as to give her a sinister vibe. Then I placed an effect called 'Inner Shadow' on the photography and created a dark, shadowy tinge around the picture.

3- I looked through the fonts available on photoshop and found the text 'Perpetua Tilting MT' and decided it to make it red as it was quite Gothic and old-fashioned and would fit the theme of my poster.

4- Using photoshop, I rasterize the text so I was able to add effects to it. I added a Drop Shadow effect to the text and upped the 'noise' effect to make the shadow grainy.

5- After adding a Drop Shadow, I added an Inner and Outer Glow effect to make the text have an eerie glow that was similar to the glow surrounding the female ghost.

6- After step two, I felt that the picture still looked too colourful compared to some of the horror themed posters I have seen. So I decided that I would combined the new layers together and copy it. I then turned the copy layer black and white, to see if it gave my poster the desired effect. It looked a little plain and not very interesting so I decided to turn the opacity of the black and white layer down so that some colour still seeped through from the base layer. The outcome creating a dark ebbing edge to the photo and giving the embraced character's some colour as well as the redish glow around the female ghost.

7- Finally I add the Columbia Pictures logo and some production credits to complete my poster.
